Goldman Sachs Entrepreneurship Certificate Program


The Goldman Sachs Entrepreneurship Certificate Program is designed for women across Rwanda who are interested in either starting a business or expanding their start-up. The program will equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to launch or expand a successful enterprise in Rwanda. The first graduating class completed the six-month program in February. The second class is graduating in July.

Session 3: Starting and Operating a Business in Rwanda

This two-day session would familiarize the participants with the level of bureaucracy (licensing, taxes, employment regulations etc) in Rwanda. On the second day of the program successful entrepreneurs from Rwanda are invited to discuss key success factors for starting and operating a successful business.

Outline of key topics to be covered:

• Bureaucracy: The process of Licensing, Role of REMA, RIEPA and other regulatory agencies in Rwanda
• Tax system: The role of RRA and other tax authorities
• Labor: Employment regulation, labor laws and minimum wages and the role of MINIFOTRA
• Practical strategies for starting and operating a successful business in Rwanda
