The SANPAD Poverty Conference is an important initiative in creating an environment for engaging with key issues relating to the poverty discourse and debate. Its intention is to bring together key thinkers and writers on poverty as well as young, emerging researchers to present some of the most cutting-edge research on poverty. The Conference aims to:
• bring together scientists, researchers, policymakers, donor agencies and civil society groups from developing countries to discuss, debate and make recommendations on ways to improve international poverty reduction efforts
• provide a global forum among a broad spectrum of South countries and groups involved in the poverty reduction process
• examine the challenges of the poverty reduction strategies adopted by the developing countries to date and to exchange views among governments, domestic and international stakeholders about the development impact of the approach and its implications for poverty reduction
To serve these objectives, the conference brings together some of the leading thinkers on poverty including Charles Meth, James Ferguson, Haroon Bhorat, Prishani Naidoo, Patrick Bond, Franco Barchiesi, Doug Henwood, Jeremy Seekings, Nicoli Nattrass to name a few.
