Alex Rothkopf is a postdoctoral researcher in Logistics and Quantitative Methods in Business Administration at the University of Wuerzburg in Germany. Dr. Rothkopf specializes in research involving procurement and supply chain management in a variety of industries. His current research focuses on multi-supplier sourcing strategies for global health products and incentive problems in procurement organizations. In collaboration with the Healthcare Research Initiative, Alex and his colleagues at Wuerzburg have created a simulation model to optimize order volume splitting among two large procurers in the market for a key injectable contraceptive. This innovative approach takes into consideration the effects that different volume splits may have on both purchasing prices and supply risks, and has the potential to positively impact procurement practices to improve contraceptive access in the future.
