Identifying Factors that Influence Patient Empowerment and Review of Internal Communications

2013

Overview

Funded by the Rwandan government and user fees, the Ruli District Hospital is a 150-bed facility with eight physicians on staff. It is located about 50 miles from Kigali. The Ihangane Project empowers Rwandan communities to develop integrated approaches to the complex challenges of HIV by supporting community-driven projects that increase access to healthcare, improve healthcare quality and foster long term success through economic development. Student intern Anna Chan reviewed communication within the health system, as well as factors that influenced patient empowerment.
