Healthcare Research Initiative

The Healthcare Research Initiative at the William Davidson Institute (WDI) produces independent, multi-disciplinary research to improve access to healthcare in developing countries. The initiative's unique organizational structure helps stimulate stakeholder discussions around new solutions to the many problems affecting global healthcare delivery. Through its research the WDI Healthcare Research Initiative intends to support policymakers and implementers in philanthropic organizations, developing country governments, bilateral and multi-lateral agencies, pharmaceutical and vaccine manufacturers, and “patient capital” investment firms.

The initiative creates knowledge through evidence-based research on healthcare supply chains, manages and engages with a network of international experts through its role as a healthcare policy think tank, strengthens capacity for healthcare professionals through WDI's Executive Education programs, and provides technical assistance on healthcare delivery and supply chains through its work with WDI's Development Consulting Services.  Additionally, the WDI Healthcare Research Initiative leverages the vast knowledge base that exists in the research centers and schools across the University of Michigan.

To learn more about how the initiative's organizational model integrates its primary areas of focus, visit the Areas of Expertise page.

At the WDI Healthcare Research Initiative we believe that future health improvements in developing countries will come not only from new clinical research but, increasingly, from the creation of scalable and sustainable models for delivery and supply chains in healthcare.
