Winter 2011: Provision of Health Care in Emerging Markets
This year the course is focused on health care in emerging markets. The course will open with 7 weeks of research and discussion of
1) the role of health care in emerging markets,
2) the different approaches to providing health care in emerging markets, and
3) the challenges facing these institutions.
As part of this discussion, students will form teams each of which will be investigating a particular health care institution in an emerging market in preparation for an immersion week at that institution during the Spring break. During the immersion week, the student team will conduct interviews and gather data to address a specific business issue identified by the health care institution. During the last six weeks of the course, the class will learn about different emerging markets, different business models and different challenges faced by health care institutions in emerging markets as each team presents its findings to the rest of the class.
