Tool for Conducting a Successful Survey Pretest: The PMI Cognitive Interview Guide

In order to help partners develop strong, context-specific surveys, PMI uses cognitive interviewing during pretests. The purpose of cognitive interviewing is to:

  1. Understand the survey from the beneficiaries point of view
  2. Test whether each question will help gather the intended information from the respondent in order to inform how to best adapt the survey to the local context
