Entrepreneurship Development

Entrepreneurs live in all corners of the world. But the expertise, networks and inspiration needed to launch and grow their businesses are far from universal.

At the WDI Academy, we are dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship through dynamic, results-based programs in low- and middle-income countries. With an agile, adaptive working style, we collaborate with partners to design innovative programs and curricula customized for both aspiring and established entrepreneurs.

We also train local trainers on technical content and pedagogy so they can deliver the programs effectively. We work with an extensive network of faculty and educators at the University of Michigan and beyond to design and deliver training that helps entrepreneurs thrive in complex environments.

Whether in-person, virtually, or in a hybrid format, we provide trainers and institutions support throughout the life of a program. Entrepreneurs completing our interactive, practical programs get the skills, knowledge, networks, and confidence they need to succeed.

6M Entrepreneurship Development Model

We design our programs around six key focus areas vital to every aspiring or established entrepreneur: Mindset, Markets, Money, Management, Mentorship and Measurement. As captured in WDI’s 6M Entrepreneurship Development Model, this comprehensive approach equips participants with the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to start or scale their businesses.

Mindset

Entrepreneurs with a mindset of openness, creativity, empathy and resilience are more likely to overcome the inevitable hurdles and persevere.

Markets

To gain a competitive advantage in the marketplace, entrepreneurs require strong skills in strategy, innovation and marketing to deliver goods and services to customers.

Money

New businesses need money to launch, as well as a strong grounding in accounting and, finance to flourish.

Management

The right combination of strong leadership skills, positive team dynamics and creative motivational tools improve employee retention and the bottom line.
