Student opportunities

With the University of Michigan

For over 30 years, WDI has supported and enhanced the global emerging market experiences of students at the University of Michigan. Through our programs and projects, students contribute their knowledge and energy toward solving the challenges of enterprises and organizations across multiple sectors in low- and middle-income countries.

Participating students gain insights, leadership and cross-cultural skills that will shape their professional careers.

WDI partners gain the expertise of students with deep finance, marketing and strategic thinking skills—many of whom have previous career experience at top consulting firms, on Wall Street or at Fortune 500 companies.

Multidisciplinary Action Projects (MAPs)

In partnership with U-M’s Ross School of Business, we organize and sponsor unique, action-based learning opportunities in emerging markets for full-time and part-time MBA students. These projects help students build new skills, expand their understanding of global businesses, and build resilience. Our partner organizations benefit from the engagement, energy and knowledge of students from a top-ranked research university.

International Investment Fund

The International Investment Fund (IIF), an initiative of the William Davidson Institute, is a student-run, internationally-focused investment fund at the University of Michigan. The fund seeks to create a mutually beneficial educational and value-add experience for students and international entrepreneurs. Leveraging seed funding from WDI, IIF invests in startups solely in emerging markets at various stages of the business lifecycle and provides portfolio companies on-going post-investment support.

Frontier Finance Lab

The Frontier Finance Lab is a pioneering new program at the University of Michigan that equips MBA and law students with hands-on experience in impact finance while supporting enterprises and technical assistance (TA) facilities in emerging markets. Working in partnership with the International Transactions Clinic at the University of Michigan Law School and the Ross School of Business, the Lab connects top student talent to blended finance vehicles and donor-backed catalytic funds, preparing early to growth-stage companies to attract private and impact capital and scale their impact.

Work with us to drive innovation and impact across emerging markets.
